Trying out something in a new region always has its risks, but it appears a new hairdressing academy is settling in nicely in Bellingham. In August, TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy opened its doors on Railroad Avenue, after putting about $800,000 in renovations in an old building. The global company was making its first foray into the Pacific Northwest, choosing Bellingham because of its proximity to the Vancouver, B.C., area and the strong pool of college students.
Two months after opening, the facility is off to a good start, said Jacque Hale, director at the Bellingham academy. It has students from this area, as well as from Alaska, Canada and Eastern Washington. It's also doing well in selling TONI&GUY products and is getting plenty of people willing to get their hair done by students in training.

Dallas, Texas – On July 13th, 2008, TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy students put on a spectacular production called “desiderio.” Each year, TONI&GUY Academy students plan a soiree which entails planning a theme, costumes, hair design, make up and supplying models on a shoe-string budget.
This year’s production was flawless and the hair was true perfection. The hair designs looked like they were created by seasoned professionals, not a newcomer to the industry. The themes varied between a punk rock look to a full blown production of the Broadway musical “Chicago.” When the show ended, the crowd stood up and cheered as each student walked down the runway presenting their creations. “This is what hairdressing is all about!”, proclaimed one student.
