These are student produced fashion runway events, designed to show off what participants have learned in color, cutting, styling and makeup to fellow students, friends and family. This year's event filled the Presque Isle Ballroom at the Avalon Hotel with over 100 students participating. Not only do they have the opportunity to show off their work, but they also gain experience from participating in a full-scale fashion show. Since many TONI&GUY graduates work in high-end salons & spas, show participation is an important part of their professional portfolio.

Erie Academy students ...
Entering the competitive world, have won top positions in local, regional, national and international events. Labeled as the "Fiercest Hair Competition on the East Coast," the International Hair Show, held every May in New Jersey, produced a number of top honors by TONI&GUY - Erie students Ashley Sedmak and Kimberly Emery. Hailey Freidel, a TONI&GUY - Erie student from the Washington, D.C. area, won 1st Place in Texarkana, TX then went on to win 2nd Place in the Mid-West National Competition in Chicago, IL.

Annual Photographic Awards
Students have the opportunity to enter their work into the prestigious TONI&GUY Photographic Awards contest, which culminates at the industry renowned annual TONI&GUY hair show, attended by several thousand students and stylists from across the country. Darren Fagley, a TONI&GUY - Erie Academy student, gained prominence in the 2005 TONI&GUY Photographic Award with his winning style, Euro Model, which was published and distributed worldwide.

Other Success Stories

Dan McHenry had the opportunity to do hair styling for a segment of the MTV program Sweet 16 that was shot locally. He continues to head up the hair styling and makeup for the North Coast Dance Conservatory's annual production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. After graduation, he opened his own hair salon, McHenry & Co.

Darren Fagley, who had his Euro Model style published in the 2005 Photographic Awards, went on to become a stylist at the TONI&GUY Salon in Pineville, NC, and is now in management at that location.

2008 Runway Hair Fashion Show

Erie is an international community, so it is no surprise that an international renowned TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy is located here. The level of confidence that TONI&GUY students exhibit is evident in their freedom to creat hair styles. This is best demonstrated at the annual Hair Show.

Student stylists created their own hair fashions, which were displayed in a full-scale competitive runway show. The show was presented to a standing room only crowd of over 800 in the Avalon Presque Isle Ballroom, complete with runway, lights, music and plenty of excitement. Judges from leading area salons selected the winners. Top winners, will be entered in the 2008 TONI&GUY Photographic Awards, which will be held in LasVegas later this year.

	Avant Garde category Stylist: Miguel Santiago, Erie, PA His model, Stevasia Pullium’s hairstyle is a warm representation of things found in nature. The flowers in her hair are actually made of hair and the vibrant colors are representing warm weather found anywhere other than Erie. Cocky paste was used to hold the shape of the flowers and Hard Head hairspray was used for maximum hold.
	Avant Garde category Stylist: Nicole Kramer, Erie, PA Nicole created a cupcake out of her model, Kristin Tanah’s coif. Swirls of chocolate and vanilla were made from the high and lowlights. Her “recipe” for this sweet updo includes a dash of Headbanger for hold, a cup of Camera Ready for shine, and one entire can to TONI&GUY’s Finishing Spray.
	Color category Stylist: Ashley Little, Westfield, NY Model, Nichole Little’s dark hair was colored with a violet hued dark brown with violet peek-a-boo highlights. The hair is cut into square layers throughout the top to accent the violet.
	Cut category Stylist: Jillian Seely, Corry, PA Jillian designed an edgy up to date progressive “Royal Asymmetrical Bob.” The cut is enhanced with steps of colors graduating from light to dark. To style this, Jillian used TIGI products, Cocky, Hard Head, and After Party. Jackie Dates was the model.
	Modern Man category Stylist: Katelyn Trabert, Erie, PA This cut is a modified version of round layers with a lot of slide cutting, channeling and texturizing. The brick radial color technique was used to emphasize the texture of the cut, sported by model Ryan Krysiak. The hair was styled with a flat iron, wax and Manipulator for piecing, Hard Head hairspray for hold and Head Rush for shine.
	Texture category Stylist: Casey Weaver, Clarion, PA Casey used root tonging to create her model, Jenna Welsh’s texture. The curls add volume and texture to the hair style with just the touch of a Marcel iron and a few TIGI products. This look can be camera ready for any occasion, casual or formal.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. The Academy participates in the Federal Pell Grant Program and the Federal Family Education Loan Program. Private lenders are also available, as well as scholarships. Contact the Financial Aid Department for more information.

With a hands-on atmosphere, we have developed a variety of venues through which you can get involved and express your creativity. You'*** get a chance to participate in community events - hair and fashion shows at the Millcreek Mall, hair styling for the Erie Freeze arena football team and the Erie SeaWolves baseball team, or the annual production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Our Story

The Erie Academy opened in 1995 and is offered by Great Lakes Institute of Technology. The academy offers basic training in hairstyling and cosmetology, as well as an advanced teacher program, and a separate manicurist certificate.

Our unique location is filled with clients from the busy business district of historic downtown Erie. With our adjoining massage therapy school right next door, you get the feel of an up-scale spa. This atmosphere really gives you the opportunity to develop your customer care skills.

Dianna Noe', Director of TONI&GUY-Erie, had banana clips as her #1 "no-no!" Student Kit

Professionals in every industry need the best tools if they are to function optimally. Hairdressing is no different, but quality equipment is expensive and may take years for a hairdresser to acquire.
